The Traveling Businessman’s Guide To Protecting Your Laptop From Danger

Protect laptop

Some businessmen and women are never in the same place for very long (laptop). Their real home almost feels like it’s up in the sky and living out of a suitcase becomes a way of life. When you’re always on the go every single day the most important thing you have with you is your laptop.

If the clothes were taken from your back you could buy new ones. You could even order a new bank card or passport, but if anything happened to your laptop it could seriously damage your ability to work effectively.

Anyone who relies on a laptop to work needs to make sure they’re taking care of it because it’s so important. Not just the physical computer, but everything else that is inside it.

All you need is something terrible to happen and what do you do? Maybe cancel your next two meetings because you don’t have any way to prep for them. What about something much worse like losing out on a big contract because you lost some important documents? Never again will you need to worry about any of that once you follow these steps to make your laptop safe.

First you back your laptop up

When we save anything it’s only onto our hard drive. That doesn’t exactly give you much confidence because everything would be gone if something happened to your laptop.

Did you know that these days everyone and their dog are using online backup solutions? You can even keep a special folder on your desk and everything inside it will be automatically backed up to your online storage as soon as you are connected to the Internet. If you’re always in hotels with Wi-Fi it means your documents are always backed up.

Organizing your Laptop passwords

When you’re always on the move it’s impossible to remember more than a few passwords. That’s unfortunate because everything online these days asks us to remember more and more. What you need is a special place to keep all your individual passwords that will give you a master one that can access everything. That means you need a proper password management system and once you do your brain will work a lot easier by just remembering one special password.

Keep the bad stuff away

You shouldn’t really use your work computer to go on any unsavory websites and you probably don’t, but neither should other people if they happen to be using your computer to go online. If you add some parental control software it means certain websites are blocked from your laptop and nobody will be able to access them. You still have the master password if you do change your mind, but at least the final decision rests with you.

As hard as a rock

When you’re carrying your laptop about all the time it has a habit of getting damaged more than it probably should. It’s likely because you’re always running around and swinging into things. When you take the time to buy a proper laptop bag there’s less chance of something bad happening to it. When you travel about a lot it’s just one of those things you need to have. It could save you lots of hassle in the future, so don’t leave on your next trip without one.

Hunt it down

Because you’re running about from airport to hotel to meeting there is a good chance that someone can pounce on your laptop and steal it while you are thinking about what to have for dinner that night. When you have something stolen it’s not nice, but that thief has definitely decided to pick on the wrong person. Install tracking software on your laptop and you can have some fun trying to get it back. I’m sure the police would appreciate a map to the thief’s front door.
